New Travel Insurance Requirements for Canadian Visitors to Cuba
The Cuban government has advised Canada that effective May 1, 2010, all Canadian visitors, upon entry to Cuba, will be required to prove that they carry addequate medical insurance. This insurance must cover the visitor for the duration of the trip and must be from an insurer of their resident country. Failing to provide proof, will require the visitor to purchase the necessary coverage from a Cuban insurer.
It is no longer just good enough to carry a card and an 800 contact phone number for the benefit of the visitor if they have a medical need. A copy of the policy, an enrollment card showing the visiting dates, and/or a receipt indicating the coverage is in force will be required.
If you opurchase travel insurance from The Benefit Guys, or any other provider, on line or over an 800#, make sure you have the necessary documentation faxed or emailed to you, and most of all, make sure you carry that documentation when you travel.
Best practises of course is to carry it with you no matter which country you are travelling.
